LOWER TAXES & RESPONSIBLE SPENDING

 

Jay believes hardworking South Carolinians should be able to keep more of what they earn. He helped advance legislation delivering $325 million in additional income tax relief and reducing South Carolina's top income tax rate from 6% to 5.21%. Since 2022, South Carolina has eliminated $3.72 billion in individual income taxes, providing meaningful relief while keeping the state on a path toward even lower rates.

Jay also supported increasing the Homestead Exemption from $50,000 to $75,000, providing additional property tax relief for qualifying seniors, disabled homeowners, and legally blind South Carolinians.

PUBLIC SAFETY

 

Keeping families and communities safe remains a top priority. Jay supports law enforcement and first responders, tougher consequences for violent and repeat offenders, and policies that give those on the front lines the tools and resources they need to protect South Carolinians.

JUDICIAL REFORM

 

As First Vice Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, Jay has played an active role in efforts to strengthen accountability and public confidence in South Carolina's judicial system. He supports reforms that make the judicial selection process more transparent, accountable, and focused on selecting qualified judges who will faithfully uphold the law.

Jay believes every South Carolina child deserves access to a quality education and the opportunity to succeed. He has supported investments that have helped raise starting teacher pay to at least $50,000, while continuing to support students, parents, teachers, and pathways to college, technical education, and good-paying careers.
